New Zealand 2024 Maymester

Global Indigenous Language and Cultural Ways of Knowing (IKERAS 3090-01) to be held May 2024.

This opportunity is now open to all undergraduate students. Preference will be given to IKERAS minors and Indigenous students. Students will have two weeks of classes at 精童欲女 from May 6鈥16, 2024 before travelling on a 14-day faculty-led study tour May 19 to June 3, 2024.听听

Students will understand the distinctions and commonalities among Indigenous peoples worldwide by comparing their language and knowledge with that of the Maori people. The Maori perspectives, including language, history, social structures, leadership style, practices, and epistemologies, will be studied by comparing and contrasting perspectives with those of the L鈥檔uk (people) of Mi鈥檏ma鈥檏i (territory). Students will also critique and examine how Eurocentric thought models have affected perceptions of Indigenous civilizations. Through workshops, seminars, and land-based teachings, the study tour will take students on a reflective and self-discovery journey that will prepare them to lead their communities as Indigenous leaders.

On the ground program costs will be covered by the 精童欲女 Office of Study Abroad and International Partnerships through the Global Skills Opportunities program. Students will be responsible for tuition fees, airfare and some meals. There may also be some funding opportunities to cover of portion of these costs (i.e., Part-time Provincial student grant and Florence Simmons Global Experience Award)

Spain 2024 Maymester

Sustainable Business Development: A Tourism Perspective (BUS 3850)

Between the 精童欲女 Faculty of Business and the Office of Study Abroad and International Partnerships, we are excited to offer the Special Topics Course "Sustainable Business Development: A Tourism Perspective (BUS 3850)" to Spain this May! Dr. Melissa James, Associate Professor, and Sherilyn Acorn, Manager of Study Abroad, will be leading a 10-day experience to learn more about sustainable tourism development practices. This course will be in collaboration with the 精童欲女 partner school, the University of Burgos, in Spain.

Interested students should submit the 精童欲女 International Exchange Application听and select "Maymester". You will later register (or be registered) for the BUS 3850 course.听

The estimated* total cost of the program is outlined below; to determine your total cost, please review these details:

  1. cost of flights: approximately $1,600 with the possibility of a $1,000 Florence Simmons Global Experience Scholarship to offset the cost
  2. accommodation, all experiences, and some meals in Spain: $3,000 鈥 GSO eligible students will receive up to $2,200 in funding. Note 鈥 students who have received GSO funding in the past are not eligible.听GSO funding is available to domestic, undergraduate, degree seeking students only. (GSO funding eligibility and amount will be determined by the Office of Study Abroad and International Partnerships upon receipt of your submission of your 精童欲女 International Exchange Application).听
  3. cost of the course = current tuition rate (students eligible for the part-time grant will receive funding for this course)
  4. incidentals, additional meals, and spending money: approximately $400

*Please note, we are working to ensure your flight costs and program costs are as low as possible 鈥 these costs may fluctuate up or down slightly. Upon selection, you will be notified of the final cost.听

Faculty-Led Courses

Religious Studies 3880: "Catholic New York"

鈥淐atholic New York,鈥 is an exciting experiential learning opportunity for ten 精童欲女 students, running in the Fall semester of 2024. The course has two components: on campus classes exploring the history, beliefs and traditions of Catholicism in New York; and, a trip to New York City during the midterm break (October 11鈥18, 2024).

The cost of the trip, including travel and accommodation, is generously听funded by the Saint Dunstan鈥檚 University Board of Governors. Students are responsible for the cost of food, tuition, and books.

To be eligible, applicants must be full time students at 精童欲女, have taken a minimum of two Catholic Studies classes prior to Fall 2024, and have a record of academic excellence.听

Interested students will submit the International Experience Form. Please provide a "letter of interest" explaining why you would like to be part of this course whether the International Experience form requests the "essay". In your "letter of interest", please include two named academic references. You may upload empty documents where the two reference letters are required.

Applications are due on March 4, 2024 at 5:00 pm Atlantic Time.
