Senator Kim Pate to speak about guaranteed livable income

Senator Kim Pate will give a presentation titled 鈥淲hy We Need a Guaranteed Livable Basic Income鈥 at two public events on PEI in April.

The first presentation will take place on April 3 at Westisle Composite High School, Elmsdale. The second presentation will be on April 4 in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Room 242, 精童欲女, Charlottetown. Both presentations begin at 7:00 pm.

The Hon. Kim Pate was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 2016. She is a nationally renowned advocate who has spent the last 40 years working in and around the legal and penal systems of Canada, with and on behalf of some of the most marginalized, victimized, criminalized, and institutionalized, particularly imprisoned youth, men, and women. She is a member of the Order of Canada, a recipient of numerous awards, and holds six honorary doctorate degrees.

Senator Pate has introduced a bill in the Senate called S-233, An Act to Develop a National Framework for a Guaranteed Livable Basic Income. This bill is currently being studied by the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance.

The events are sponsored by Saint Dunstan鈥檚 University Board of Governors. Admission is free.
