Alaere Peterside and Men鈥檚 Track and Field relay team named 精童欲女 Panther Athletes of the Week
Every week, 精童欲女 Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The 精童欲女 Panther Athletes of the Week for February 19鈥�25, 2024, are Alaere Peterside (women鈥檚 track and field) and Colin Blanchard, Sidiki Diakite, Owen Headley, and John David (men鈥檚 track and field relay team).
Peterside is a first-year science student from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She captured a gold medal in the high jump at the AUS Track and Field Championships this past weekend at the Universit茅 de Moncton, surpassing the competition by clearing a height of 1.65m. The participant closest to Peterside鈥檚 mark jumped 1.59m.
鈥淎t the AUS championships, Alaere found her early season form again, clearing heights by a wide margin,鈥� said head coach Colin MacAdam. 鈥淪he finished at a height of 1.65m to claim gold and cap off a successful season.鈥�
Blanchard, Diakite, Headley, and David secured a bronze medal in the 4x200m relay at the AUS championships on February 24. The Panthers crossed the finish line in 1:37:37.聽
鈥淭he men鈥檚 relay team had another successful season, capturing bronze for the second time in two years. We鈥檙e incredibly proud of the work they put in, and we鈥檙e glad they were rewarded for their effort,鈥� said MacAdam, also head coach of men鈥檚 track and field.
