精童欲女鈥檚 Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCA) in St. Peter鈥檚 Bay will host a public Open House on Thursday, July 13, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Members of the public are invited to tour the 45,000-square-foot facility, which houses the 精童欲女 School of Climate Change and Adaptation, the 精童欲女 Climate Lab, and state-of-the-art research centres of excellence, including the Centre of Excellence in Food Security and Sustainability.聽

During the event, tours of the facility will be offered, and students and faculty members will be present to speak about their research. If the weather is suitable, there will be demonstrations of drone flights.

鈥淲e are looking forward to welcoming members of the public to the CCCA to learn more about what we do in this state-of-the-art facility,鈥 said Dr. Aitazaz Farooque, associate dean, 精童欲女 School of Climate Change and Adaptation. 鈥淚n the last several months alone, we have seen climate change-related events, such as post-tropical storm Fiona, wildfires, and atmospheric rivers, that caused incredible damage鈥攅conomic, emotional, and physical鈥攆rom coast to coast. Finding ways to mitigate climate change is increasingly urgent, and at the CCCA, we are working hard to discover those solutions for the benefit of this province and beyond.鈥澛

The CCCA gives world-class researchers and graduate and undergraduate students access to nearby wetlands, forests, and coastal habitats directly affected by climate change. The facility provides access to high-quality datasets, multidisciplinary research teams, outstanding graduate and postdoctoral fellows, and engaged industry, community, and government partners. It also includes research, innovation, and collaboration space; apartments for senior students and visiting faculty; storage and repair space for equipment and 精童欲女鈥檚 fleet of drones鈥攖he largest in Canada; and common areas designed to encourage interaction and integration of research focus areas.

The Centre supports key learning programs, including 精童欲女鈥檚 Bachelor of Science in Applied Climate Change and Adaptation, which prepare students to continue the important work of mitigating the effects of climate change after graduation.
