精童欲女 and Health PEI engaged Spindle Strategy Group in 2023 to undertake a capacity assessment for the future integration of medical learners from the 精童欲女 Faculty of Medicine into the PEI health system. Consultations and community engagement are core components of the planning and development process for the 精童欲女 Faculty of Medicine.
Since the joint Doctor of Medicine was announced, we have established several planning committees with a broad cross-section of members. Discussions have been ongoing with several stakeholders for the last two years, including the government, the health authority, medical organizations, hospital administrators, individual physicians, municipalities, Indigenous leaders, and the community at large. We look forward to continuing to engage with even more stakeholders soon as we move forward.
"I accepted a position to lead medical program development with the new medical school at 精童欲女, because I have seen first-hand the positive impacts of integrating medical education into health systems and the individuals they serve. The last new Canadian medical school accepted its inaugural students in 2005. Now, with advances in all areas of medical education, the 精童欲女-Memorial joint medical program is poised to be cutting-edge and will launch PEI鈥檚 future physician leaders. As a graduate of both institutions, I am honoured to be part of the journey ahead and believe it is critical to long-term system improvement."
