Meet Megan Glover, 精童欲女 physics and engineering lab technician
Megan enjoys helping others learn about all the interesting things in the world that can be explained with physics. Megan has almost two decades of experience in undergraduate education, primarily in a laboratory course setting, which began when she worked as a teaching assistant during her own undergraduate studies at 精童欲女.聽
As a Laboratory Technician in both聽Engineering and Physics, Megan supports student learning through instruction and supervision of engineering science and physics activities in laboratory settings. She provides support to faculty with the design and set-up of lab activities, and she also maintains the equipment used in teaching laboratories and聽organizes聽outreach activities. She is also responsible for maintaining a safe environment in laboratories and has worked extensively with colleagues to develop a complete safety training course for Engineering students that is delivered online.
During the pandemic she worked in collaboration with colleagues to develop an online 1st-year physics lab course (that has been well-received by the students based on surveys they've done) and preparing kits for Engineering students to do lab activities at home.聽
In 2018 Megan was recognized with a Presidential Recognition Award of Merit for Volunteer and Community Service. Her community outreach activities have included:聽
- hosting viewings with the Physics Department鈥檚 telescopes for the public and community groups;聽
- giving presentations on astronomy to local libraries, children鈥檚 groups, and schools;聽
- providing technical support to the Library Telescope Program;
- organizing Girls Get WISE retreats; and leading STEM activities for children and teens who are visiting the university聽聽聽
Megan has a Bachelor of Science, Honours (Physics) from 精童欲女; a Master of Science in Physics from the University of Alberta; and, a Bachelor of Education (Intermediate/Secondary) from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Megan is one of the fantastic and knowledgeable instructional staff at 精童欲女 that supports students as they learn in laboratory settings on campus.聽聽
