The Clark Lab in the Department of Chemistry is looking for a research assistant. The position is in the field of natural products chemistry, and uses a balance of microbiology, and analytical chemistry/instrumentation. In general, the research assistant will be required to work within a team environment, although they should also be able to function independently.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Research Assistant鈥檚 responsibilities will be:
- Coordination and implementation of research projects
- Working towards future funding opportunities
- Drafting reports, correspondence and tracking research progress according to project timelines
- Aiding in manuscript creation
- Performing experiments
- Data analysis
- Organization of lab spaces and supplies, ie. inventory. acquiring quotes, ordering supplies
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science or Engineering in the realm of biology or chemistry
- I.e. BSc Biology, BSc Chemistry, BE in sustainable design (focus on bio-resources).
- The candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision
- Previous scientific writing experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Previous research experience desired:
- Experience with biological materials
- Chemical extraction of biological materials
- Previous biosafety training is an asset
- Experience with analytical equipment.
- HPLC-MS/GCMS
- FTIR
- Structure determination
- HPLC
- Low-pressure chromatography
- Previous WHMIS training is an asset
