Working with Dr. Lyndsay Moffatt (Faculty of Education) and Librarian Katelyn Browne (Robertson Library), the graduate student research assistant will be responsible for work on a literature review and interview/content analysis protocol for a research project titled 鈥淪upporting Our Students: School Libraries in Atlantic Canada.鈥

This project seeks to 1) Conduct a scoping review of recent research on the benefits of school libraries staffed with trained teacher-librarians and 2) Conduct a preliminary investigation into the state of school libraries and teacher-librarianship in Atlantic Canada. This study is designed to help inform further research and to support regional efforts in improving K-12 public education.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the guidance of the co-investigators, the graduate student research assistant will conduct a literature review investigating the effects of school libraries and teacher-librarians on the academic and social success of K-12 students
  • The graduate student researcher will also participate in research activities related to the interview protocol and content analysis, which could include preparing a Research Ethics Board application, developing interview questions, identifying interview subjects, participating as a co-interviewer, transcribing interviews, developing a codebook, and/or analyzing interview transcriptions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current enrollment in 精童欲女 Faculty of Education graduate program 

  • Understanding of qualitative research methods (particularly interviews and content analysis)

  • Ability to identify gaps in data or evidence

  • Ability to synthesize and summarize information from multiple sources to make accurate and representative claims

  • Demonstrated critical thinking ability, initiative, good organizational skills, flexibility, ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to accurately follow instructions and pay attention to detail

  • While much of the work on this project can be scheduled according to the researcher鈥檚 availability, they must also be available to participate in online meetings during weekday business hours (Atlantic time)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and/or work experience in libraries/school libraries
  • Experience with qualitative data collection and/or analysis
  • Experience researching a literature review on an education-related topic
  • Experience with policy analysis

This position is covered by a Collective Agreement between the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the 精童欲女. Priority will be given to 精童欲女 students.
