Student Research Assistant - Department of Physics
$17.05 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay

Dr. Maria Kilfoil and Dr. Bill Whelan are seeking one research assistant to work on a project to evaluate and optimize the use of Raman spectroscopy to detect microplastics in water samples from local watersheds.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review the literature on the use of Raman spectroscopy to detect microplastics in water
- Calibrate two Raman systems and optimize sensitivity
- Fabricate a synthetic river water sample using a variety of different microplastic
- Design and execute experiments to determine optimal operational characteristics for the two Raman systems
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® student
- Successful candidate will be enrolled in an undergraduate physics program at
- Experience with testing and evaluation of optics components in a physics laboratory setting
- Excellent hands-on skills
- Ability to work independently
