Teaching Support Assistant - School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences
$17.05 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
June 10 – August 16, 2024
The School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences is seeking a Student Assistant to help prepare online course materials to support our students in their first-year studies in Computer Science.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will work with academic staff on a variety of tasks:
- Creating a variety of different multiple-choice questions for testing knowledge of programming concepts
- Based on previous examples, creating exercises to test application of programming knowledge
- Creation of model solutions for exercises with full code documentation in Python
- Load questions into the learning management system Moodle either via the online interface or available scripting languages
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with the Python 3 programming language
- Completed CS1910 / CS1920 / CS 2910 with excellent marks
- Experience with Google Apps (eg. Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc..), both PC and Mac
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Demonstrated ability to perform programming tasks ensuring careful attention to detail
- Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to take direction
- Qualifications that would be considered an asset
- Experience with the R programming language
- Knowledge of the Moodle environment from previous positions (e.g. TAships)
- Excellent English writing and comprehensive skills
