Sessional Instructors - Faculty of Education - Fall 2024
The Faculty of Education at the ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in Fall 2024. The offering of the courses is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All positions are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.
Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
ED-4150-2 The Diverse and Inclusive Classroom
This course explores student diversity and addressing the needs of a wide variety of learners within the context of inclusive education. Particular focus will be placed on the development of instructional strategies that support all learners.
This course is offered to students in the Intermediate Senior cohort of our Bachelor of Education Program on Fridays from 8:30am – 3:20pm, September 13 to October 16, 2024.
ED-4270-2 Intermediate/Senior Mathematics 2
This course is a continuation of Education 426, and builds a conceptual foundation for the topics covered in the intermediate/senior years curriculum. Emphasis is placed on the critical examination of the current intermediate/senior years mathematics curriculum in relation to materials and methodologies. Experience in a variety of teaching methodologies is provided in addition to the development of an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment in mathematics.
This course is offered to students in the Intermediate Senior cohort of our Bachelor of Education Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30pm – 3:20pm, September 12 to October 16, 2024.
ED-4336-3 Developing Learning and Play (taught in French)
Current theoretical and conceptual frameworks in the field of early years education and how they inform current approaches to the children’s learning from age 0-8 will be examined. Participants will study play and its major role in young children’s learning, major influences affecting learning and play, methods of observing and studying play, and practical approaches for supporting and facilitating children’s learning in early childhood settings and in grades K-2. Participants in current BEd programmes and educators from early years settings will develop projects combining their observations in early years settings with practical curriculum activities.
This course is offered in French to students in the Primary/Elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) Program, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:30am – 11:20am, September 12 to October 16, 2024.
ED-4480-1 Social Emotional Learning and Children’s Mental Health
This course introduces students to an overview of children’s mental health issues, the core competencies of Social Emotional Learning, and evidenced-based programs and strategies identified for improving students’ social skills, emotional well-being, and academic outcomes.
This course is offered to students in the Primary/Elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education Program, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:30am – 11:20am, September 12 to October 16, 2024.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education or equivalent degree. Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system. For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content.
Qualified candidates with seniority on the ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® Faculty of Education’s Sessional Roster and the Faculty’s full-time and term contract faculty members will be given priority.
