Sessional Instructors - Department of Applied Human Sciences - Faculty of Science - Winter 2025
The Department of Applied Human Sciences at the 精童欲女 has an opening for Sessional Instructors during the Winter of 2025 academic semester. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
KINE-1010 Introduction to Kinesiology (3 Credits)
This course will provide students with an introduction to the study of human movement, and explore the physical, social, and psychological aspects of development as they relate to physical activity. Topics include: exercise physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, sport sociology and exercise psychology. Three hours a week.
KINE-2210 Intro to Exercise Physiology (3 Credits)
This course discusses the physiological response to exercise, examining both acute and chronic adaptations to an exercise stress. Discussed from a physiological systems perspective, this course will examine the functional capacity of individual physiological systems, including the muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous systems, and discuss the system's response to submaximal and maximal exercise and its impact on human performance. The environmental impact on physical performance will also be discussed. Three hours lecture, two hours laboratory. Although this course includes labs and lectures, the sessional instructor will be responsible for teaching the lecture only.
KINE-3440 Active Living Practicum (3 Credits)
This course will provide students with in-depth experience with one-on-one personal training and client management. Students will work with community volunteers to develop and oversee progressive, personalized training programs with a focus on improving health and performance. Four hours lecture per week. Three semester hours of credit. The sessional instructor will be responsible for teaching four lecture hours per week.
KINE-4120 Field Placement II (3 Credits)
This course provides students with the opportunity to integrate theory into practice in a variety of multidisciplinary environments. Students complete a combination of supervised and independent work experience, and share their experiences in the classroom. Three lecture hours per week and 60 hours of field placement. The sessional instructor will be responsible for teaching the lecture only.
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold an MSc or PhD in a field related to the course content, or BSc with relevant professional designation and/or experience. Documented experience teaching these courses, advanced fitness certifications (e.g. CSCS, CSEP CPT or CSEP CEP) and Professional Membership in Kinesiology PEI are definite assets. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the 精童欲女 Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty members of the Academic unit.
