The GeoREACH lab in the Applied, Communications, Leadership & Culture program is seeking a Research Assistant with relevant experience to support research on land use, food, and policy history in Atlantic Canada. The Research Assistant will be supervised by the Director, Dr. Joshua MacFadyen. The GeoREACH lab supports Geospatial Research in Atlantic Canadian History and other projects of the ACLC program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read workflows and produce technical documentation and summaries
  • Assist team members with data entry QA/QC and summaries
  • Participate in a weekly team meeting
  • Interpret and organize research results in databases
  • Work with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Organize and prepare to host guests at team meetings
  • Write communications for the lab website and social media

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to integrate principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion into research methodologies and be committed to promoting diversity within academic and research setting
  • Experience with data or record management
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of the impacts of social, cultural and economic factors in interpretation of historical narratives and spatial analysis
  • Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications
  • Experience with GIS is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Prince Edward Island history is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of food and agriculture is considered an asset
  • Ability to travel to various PEI archives is considered an asset
