We are seeking an Employee Benefits Accommodation and Wellness Officer to manage the day-to-day operations of our employee accommodation, return-to-work, leave management, and wellness programs. In this role, you will oversee all employee leave provisions, including leaves of absence, disability management, workers compensation claims, return to work, and accommodation services for employees experiencing occupational and non-occupational illnesses or injuries. Additionally, you will support the promotion of health and wellness on campus and participate in the delivery of all employee benefit program offerings. This position supports both unionized and non-unionized employee groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee all employee leave provisions, including Leaves of Absence, Disability Management, Workers Compensation Claims, Return to Work, and Accommodation services for employees experiencing both occupational and non-occupational illnesses or injuries.
  • Ensure compliance with Human Rights legislation regarding medical accommodations and Return to Work programs.

  • Administer and promote all employee benefit program offerings.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of employee group benefits, and leave database management, including eligibility and application processes.

  • Report on key benefit, leave and wellness metrics

  • Provide resources and support to employees for maintaining and improving their health and wellbeing.

  • Provide guidance and support to employees regarding benefits, leave policies, and wellness resources.
  • Address employee inquiries and resolve issues related to benefits and wellness programs.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Overall, a combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and personal qualities will be considered.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and/or a three-year diploma in Human Resources Management required. CHRP or equivalent professional HR designation would be an asset.

  • A minimum of three to five years’ related HR experience in employee leave, attendance, disability management and employee benefits required, 

  • The position requires considerable organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities and demonstrated, superior attention to detail. The successful applicant honors commitments by tracking projects and meeting timelines.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, team-building and leadership are essential. Familiarity with post-secondary educational environment.
