I am from Kwara State, Nigeria. I came to 精童欲女 in 2019.
What brought you to 精童欲女? In other words, why did you choose to study there?
I chose to study at 精童欲女 for several reasons. First, I was drawn to the University鈥檚 strong reputation as one of the leading universities for Island Studies and community development. The faculty at 精童欲女 has a stellar track record, and the curriculum aligns well with my career aspirations.
Additionally, the campus environment and community at 精童欲女 played a crucial role in my decision. I was impressed by the inclusive and supportive atmosphere, and the smaller class sizes offered a more personalized learning experience. This fosters a close-knit community where students can actively engage with professors and fellow classmates.
Lastly, the beautiful location of 精童欲女 in Prince Edward Island was an appealing factor. The serene surroundings and the sense of community within the Island resonated with me, providing an ideal setting for focused academic pursuits.

What is your most memorable experience from your time at 精童欲女?
One of the most memorable experiences during my time at 精童欲女 was my research project focused on Islandness. This project provided me with a unique opportunity to delve deep into the cultural fabric of Prince Edward Island. Through interviews with individuals across different age groups, I was able to explore and understand the nuances of Island life, including its culture, traditions, biases, sentiments, and the various aspects that make PEI distinct.
Conducting these interviews allowed me to immerse myself in the rich tapestry of the island's community. I gained firsthand insights into the perspectives of the people, their stories, and the interconnectedness of various elements that contribute to the unique identity of Prince Edward Island.
The experience was not only academically rewarding but also personally enriching. It fostered a deep appreciation for the diversity of voices within the Island community. This research project became a pivotal moment in my academic journey, shaping my understanding of cultural context in research and the value of community engagement.
What is your current role, and how did your program at 精童欲女 prepare you for success there?
My academic journey through 精童欲女鈥檚 Island Studies program, with a specialization in sustainable island communities, has been instrumental in shaping my success as the manager of development planning for the City of Port Moody.
The Island Studies program at 精童欲女 provided a unique and specialized focus on understanding the dynamics of island communities and fostering sustainability. The emphasis on sustainable development within the program has been particularly valuable in preparing me for my role. I gained a comprehensive understanding of the interconnectedness between social, economic, and environmental factors in the context of island environments.
The curriculum鈥檚 focus on sustainable island communities equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of development planning with a forward-thinking and environmentally conscious approach. I learned to analyze the impact of development initiatives on the community and the environment, considering long-term implications and fostering resilience.
Tell us a little about your career journey. Are there any transitions in your career path or key moments that led to a change in direction?
My career journey has been characterized by a series of fulfilling roles in the field of planning and development, each contributing to my professional growth and expertise. The knowledge I gained through my academic program at 精童欲女 played a pivotal role in shaping my career path.
After completing my program in Island Studies with a specialization in sustainable island communities, I began my professional journey as a planning and development officer. In this role, I had the opportunity to serve as a land use advisor to six municipalities and councils in PEI. This experience allowed me to apply the theoretical concepts learned during my academic program to real-world scenarios, in the process gaining practical insights into community development and planning processes.
A significant transition in my career occurred when I joined the PEI provincial government as a planning and property development officer. This role provided a broader scope, allowing me to contribute to the strategic planning and development initiatives at a provincial level. It was during this time that I further honed my skills in policy development and gained a deeper understanding of the intersection between government regulations and community needs.
Following this, due to personal reasons and circumstances, I decided to move to British Columbia, and this transition led me to my current role as a manager of development planning with one of the cities in Metro Vancouver. In this capacity, I oversee and lead development planning initiatives for the city, working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure sustainable and well-balanced urban development.

The knowledge and skills acquired through my Island Studies program with a specialization in sustainable island communities at 精童欲女 have been pivotal in shaping my approach to work and have significantly informed my career in planning and development.

This holistic perspective has guided my decision-making process, allowing me to consider the long-term implications and sustainability of development initiatives.

Of course, I felt a great sense of accomplishment being a recipient of a Faculty of Graduate Studies Award of Distinction in Arts. However, I wish I could have devoted more time to networking during my time at 精童欲女.
