Atlantic Veterinary College hosts 2022 R.G. Thomson Lecture
Dr. von Keyserlingk is a professor and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada industrial research chair in the Animal Welfare Program at the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at the University of British Columbia.
Her research focuses on assessing animal welfare and developing practical methods of improving the welfare of animals, with much of her work focused on dairy cows and calves. She is also a leader in her field, combining experimental and qualitative methods when addressing animal welfare issues.
鈥淒r. von Keyserlingk is recognized as an international leader in her field,鈥� says Dr. Larry Hammell, associate dean of graduate studies and research, AVC. 鈥淭his was a unique opportunity for our faculty, staff, and students to hear someone of her caliber and expertise speak about her animal welfare research.鈥�
The R.G. Thomson Lecture is an annual special lecture hosted by AVC Graduate Studies and Research to celebrate a distinguished colleague in a veterinary research field. The lecture is named after AVC鈥檚 founding dean, Dr. Reginald G. Thomson.
The presentation entitled, 鈥淲orking in animal welfare: A journey from farm girl to scientist,鈥� took place on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at AVC.
