Due to emergency service staffing shortages, the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) Small Animal Emergency Service overnight coverage for veterinary clinics on Prince Edward Island will change on Thursday, January 6, 2022. These changes are being implemented to ensure that all pet owners can access safe and focused care for their pets around the clock.

The shortage of veterinarians is a long-standing issue in the veterinary profession across Canada, and it has been exacerbated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Atlantic Veterinary College plans to resume full emergency coverage when staffing levels are adequately restored. The staff and veterinarians at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition and are still here for your pets seven days a week.
