Updates re: Pre-Travel Requirements for聽Travelling to and from PEI
| Students
The following message about pre-travel requirements and recent travel updates from the Associate Vice-President of Students and Registrar was distributed to students on November 26, 2020.
Dear Students,
I am writing to update you on some important developments about travelling to and from Prince Edward Island.
The Government of Prince Edward Island announced that effective November 24, 2020, non-essential travel to and from the province is discouraged, and that anyone arriving from outside of PEI will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. This announcement has essentially ended PEI鈥檚 participation in the Atlantic Canada bubble for a minimum of two weeks. The PEI Chief Public Health Office also advised that anyone planning to travel over the holidays should apply for pre-travel approval by December 1, 2020.
As we near the Christmas break and the 2021 Winter Academic Semester, it is understandable that those of you currently on PEI may be considering travelling out of the province to visit family and friends over the holidays. However, due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in other areas of the country, leaving PEI may increase your risk of infection and the risk of infecting others. We know this is a difficult decision, but we strongly encourage you to remain on PEI as it will ensure that you do not face any barriers when returning to the Island and to your studies at 精童欲女.
If you are a student currently living on PEI and do decide to travel off-Island, you will be subject to PEI public health regulations, including self-isolating for 14 days upon your return, at your own expense. You must have a pre-travel plan approved by the PEI Chief Public Health Office in advance of returning, or risk being denied entry to the province. The first step is to request a now from 精童欲女. If you have already done so, the next step is to apply for from the Government of PEI. For those of you who do not have place to self-isolate, and/or do not have a self-isolation support contact, please indicate your self-isolation location as the 鈥淒esignated Isolation Hotel.鈥 For more information, read the .
While residences at 精童欲女 are not available for self-isolation, they will remain open for students who live in residence and decide to stay on PEI. A number of festive activities are being planned over the Christmas break. For those living off-campus, 精童欲女 will keep you informed of various programs and activities that you can participate in over the holidays.
We recognize how this situation may be stressful for you. 精童欲女 has a number of supports for students through 精童欲女 Student Affairs, including personal counselling (studentserv@upei.ca), Accessibility Services (studentserv@upei.ca), and the International Student Office (irostu@upei.ca). We encourage you to reach out for support.
We are Panther proud of what you have been doing in order to keep our 精童欲女 community safe: let鈥檚 keep up the good work!
If you have any questions about travelling off-Island, please email registrar@upei.ca.
Sincerely,
Donna Sutton
