Description: | Awarded to a student entering third or fourth year in the Faculty of Arts or Business, and based on academic achievement. Students already in receipt of $1,000 or more in the same academic year are not eligible. |
Background: | The Michael and Aletha Hennessey Scholarships were established in honour of Michael and Aletha Hennessey of Charlottetown, PEI. Michael F. Hennessey (SDU '50) was the 精童欲女's first Registrar who helped draft the university constitution when St. Dunstan's University merged with Prince of Wales College to form 精童欲女. He was recognized as a 精童欲女 Founder in 2004. In his retirement years, Mr. Hennessey is an author and award-winning playwright and is a past recipient of the PEI Council of the Arts prestigious Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Literary Arts on PEI. Aletha Hennessey worked at the University Library from 1968-1976. She also worked with the Heritage Foundation, the Charlottetown Area Development Corporation, and Workers Compensation Board. She is also a volunteer with various community organizations, including Meals on Wheels and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Their children, Kathleen Garrett, Maureen Hennessey, Frank Hennessey, Sean Hennessey, and Patrick Hennessey established these scholarships in honour of their parents. |
