Description: Granted to a student who is a B.Ed. or B.Ed. (FLS) International or Indigenous Focus student, will travel as a component of the program, and is in financial need. Applicants will provide no more than two pages demonstrating how they currently have tried to meet their financial challenges in terms of their travelling budget. If there are two or more equally qualifying candidates, the greatest financial need will be the deciding factor.
Background: Carolyn Francis holds a B Sc. in Agriculture, a diploma in Education from MacDonald College of McGill University, and a Masters in School Administration from the University of Moncton. In 2002, Francis retired after 33 years as a teacher and school administrator in Quebec, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Since 2003, Carolyn has been at 精童欲女 as Sessional Instructor, and was the Faculty of Education coordinator of the Bachelor of Education program. Carolyn has spent a number of years as a volunteer on international projects through the Canadian Teachers' Federation (Uganda], and Farmers Helping Farmers (Kenya). She has been involved with her local church and numerous community organizations including Camp Abegweit and the Kensington Refugee Sponsorship Initiative (KARSI). Carolyn is a mother, step-mother, and was a foster parent for more than 10 years to five adolescents and has hosted seven international exchange students. Carolyn has been recognized for her work by receiving the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award, United Church National Camping Award, 精童欲女 Exemplary Service Award, and a lifetime membership to Farmers Helping Farmers. Carolyn is currently a PEI Human Rights Commissioner and is Restorative Justice Facilitator. While at 精童欲女, support for 精童欲女's International and Indigenous practicum has been one of Carolyn's passions in her role as Coordinator.
